SENIOR DIRECTING STAFF (ARMY)

BRIG GEN QAZI ABIDUS SAMAD, ndc, psc

SDS (Army)

Brigadier General Qazi Abidus Samad, ndc, psc was commissioned from Bangladesh Military Academy on 21 December 1980 in the Corps of Infantry. As a regimental officer, he served in a good number of infantry regiments in all the regimental appointments. As a staff officer, the General served as a Brigade Major in an Infantry Brigade, Staff Officer Grade II in the Army Headquarters, Staff Officer Grade I in an Infantry Division, Instructor Class A in the School of Infantry & Tactics and Col Staff (COS) in an Infantry Division. He also commanded Infantry battalions and a Composite Brigade. He did number of courses both in home and abroad. Besides the mandatory courses, he attended Combat Group Commanders Course in India. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command & Staff College, Bangladesh. The General completed his National Defence Course from National Defence College, India and did his M Phil on Security & Strategic Studies from Madras University, India. He specializes on Counter Insurgency, Disaster Management and Moral and Ethical Studies in the Military. He served as a Peacekeeper in UNOSOM II in Somalia 1993 – 94 and also served as the Force Chief of Staff of UNAMID in Darfur, Sudan. He was the Director, Operations & Plans Directorate in the Armed Forces Division which is the Tri Service HQ in Bangladesh. He joined NDC as Senior Directing Staff on 20th July 2011. He is a widely travelled person. The General is happily married and blessed with a lovely daughter. He enjoys reading and golf at his leisure.

 

SENIOR DIRECTING STAFF (ARMY)

BRIG GEN SOHEL AHMED, ndc, afwc, psc

SDS (Army)

Brigadier General Sohel Ahmed, ndc, afwc, psc was commissioned in Bangladesh Army in June 1983 in the Armoured Corps. 

Brigadier General Sohel has a distinguished carrier in command, staff and instruction. He commanded the prestigious Armoured Brigade besides a very traditional armoured regiment. Beside regimental staff appointments, he was the Brigade Major of the Armoured Brigade and Grade 1 staff of an Infantry Division and in Army Headquarters. He was instructor in Armoured Corps Center and School for a long time and later became the Commandant of the same Institution. He served in Bangladesh Military Academy in two tenures as Platoon and Company/Term Commander respectively. He was the Directing Staff in the Armed Forces War Course Wing of National Defence College and later became the Chief Instructor of the same Wing. 

Brigadier Sohel attended number of courses at home and abroad. He attended his Basic Course in China and Mid Career Course in Pakistan. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He attended Armed Forces War Course in National Defence College, Bangladesh. He is also a graduate of National Defence College, India.

Brigadier Sohel earned MPhil from Madras University. He is an MBA from Royal Roads University, Canada. He earned his Masters in Defence Studies and Masters in War Studies both under National University, Bangladesh.

Brigadier Sohel is happily married to Shoma Ahmed and father of a lovely daughter Mashiyat and young son Zarif.

 

SENIOR DIRECTING STAFF (NAVY)

COMMODORE MOHAMMAD SAIFUL KABIR, ndc, psc

SDS (Navy)

Commodore Mohammad Saiful Kabir, ndu, psc, BN was born in Dhaka on 21 December 1958. He joined Bangladesh Navy as an Officer Cadet (76A Batch) on 08 July 1976 and got his commission in Electrical branch on 01 January 1979. He is a graduate of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

He has done his Weapon Engineering Application Course from Royal Naval Engineering College, UK. Commodore Kabir is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Mirpur. He has done his second Staff Course from US Naval Staff College, Newport, Rhode Island and Senior Staff Course from Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC), Savar. He got his Master of Defence Studies (MDS) degree from National University, Bangladesh and Diploma in Defence and Strategic Studies degree from National Defence University, China. His instructional duties include Training Commander (Bangladesh Naval Academy), Director Junior Staff Course, Senior Instructor (Navy) in DSCSC and Senior Instructor (Electrical) in Military Institute of Scince and Technology (MIST). 

He has served in different BN ships and establishments in various capacities including Manager in BN Dockyard. He has also served as Commanding Officer of BNS ULKA. Commodore Kabir Served as Naval Secretary, Director of Naval Training, Director of Personnel Services, Director of Naval Education Services and Director of Welfare in the Naval Headquarters. Prior joining in NDC as SDS (Navy) he has served as Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff (Personnel) in the Naval Headquarters. He is happily married with Nadira Afroz who is a Child Specialist and presently working as Junior Consultant in Mother and Child Health Training Institute (MCHTI). He is blessed with one son (a student of BUET, 4th year Mechanical Engineering) and one daughter (completed A Level). His hobby is gardening and social work.

 

SENIOR DIRECTING STAFF (AIR)

AIR COMMODORE SHAHE ALAM, ndc, psc

SDS (Air)

Air Commodore Shahe Alam, ndc, psc was born on 01 Feb 1960. He joined Air Force in the beginning of 1980 and was commissioned in GD (P) Branch on 19 Jun 82 after two and half years of training. He is basically a fighter pilot and a category `A` flying instructor. He is also a categorized captain of Bell -206 helicopter.

Air Commodore Shah completed his staff course from Defence Service Command & Staff College Mirpur, Bangladesh and Air War Academy, Turkey. He did his National Defence Course from National Defence College Mirpur, Dhaka in 2005.

He held different command/staff appt at Air HQ,Base and Flying Units.

He has visited a good number of countries. He performed a UN Mission in Bosnia Herzegovina in 1994.

Air Commodore Shah is married to Colonel Khaleda who is an officer of Army Medical Corp, Bangladesh. Mrs Khaleda Shah is a classified Gynaecologist and presently posted at Armed Forces Medical College at Dhaka. Air Commodore Shah is blessed with 02 sons; elder son Ashik (22 yr) is a student of NSU, studying economics and younger son, Sadman (19 yrs) is a student of IBA Dhaka University.

Air Commodore Shah is interested in various games and sports. He played basket ball and hockey for BAF team. At present he is a keen golfer.

 

SENIOR DIRECTING STAFF (CIVIL)

JOINT SECRETARY AFM NURUS SAFA CHOWDHURY, ndc

SDS (Civil)

Joint Secretary AFM Nurus Safa Chowdhury, ndc was born in July 23, 1955 at Feni. He graduated from Chittagong University (M Sc. Honours), majoring in Botany in 1979. He joined the Civil Service (Information) in 1984 (Batch-1982). He was promoted as Director in 2000, Deputy Secretary in 2003 and Joint Secretary in 2006. Earlier he did two diplomatic assignments as Second Secretary, Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi in 1989-93 and as Counsellor (Labour), Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh in 2001-2003.

He visited USA for higher study in 1983 and UK, France, Switzerland in 1986 to attend UNCTAD-VII Conference, Malaysia in 1985 (INFOFISH Conference), Singapore 2007 (MATT-2 Course), Thailand & Malaysia in 2007 (Sr. Staff Course) and also India, Pakistan, KSA, Nepal, Bahrain. He also visited the Philippines, Japan, and Thailand as a member of the OST-2 team NDC-2008 in August, 2008.

He completed various training courses like BCS Foundation Course, Advanced Course for Administration and Development, Senior Staff Course, Information Officers’ Course and Training in Budgeting & Accounting System at home and Managing Changes in Singapore Public Service, Singapore Civil Service College, Public Administration Capacity Building, AIT, Thailand (MATT-2, PATC at Savar) and Computer Course in USA.

His hobbies are travelling, reading, gardening & watching cricket. He is married and blessed with one daughter. At present he is Senior Directing Staff (Civil) National Defence College.
