COMMENCEMENT OF NATIONAL DEFENCE COURSE 2012
National Defence Course (NDC) 2012 commenced on 29 January 2012 at National Defence College, Mirpur Cantonment, Dhaka. Course Members of the rank of Brigadier General / equivalent are participating in the course. This year a total of 63 Course Members, which include 18 from Army, 03 from Navy, 03 from Air Force, 12 from Civil Services and 27 Allied Course Members from 13 friendly countries namely Brunei, China, Egypt, India, Jordan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, are attending NDC 2012. Lieutenant General Mollah Fazle Akbar, Commandant of National Defence College delivered his Welcome Address on 29 January 2012. General Akbar welcomed all the course members with great pleasure. He said that the participation of allied course members would add new perspective and angle to the studies. He emphasized on building enduring friendship and lasting relationship them as it was done in the past. Commandant expected the whole heartd engagement of all course members in all College Activities including the Social Programmes. The Commandant stated that security of nation today does not rest on military power; rather it is increasingly dependent upon her stability, prosperity and the overall state of national power. He further stated that internal dimension of security today is equally important like that of the external one specially when viewed in the context of the third world countries. Accordingly, the socio-political, economic and geo-strategic environments in which nation state operates have been accommodated in the study. He then touched upon transitional issues like proliferation of small arms and drugs, illegal migration, international terrorism, environment and eco-system degradation etcetera and geo-economics in turn economic diplomacy which has become an important focus today. Commandant advised all to feel free and enjoy the course. He also wished all a good start of the course and a fruitful year. Finally, Commandant wished all a very happy, fruitful stay at home, National Defence College.

CLOSING OF CAPSTONE COURSE-2012
Two weeks long CAPSTONE COURSE-2012 of National Defence College (NDC) was concluded at the Mirpur Cantonment on 12 January 2012. Honourable Minister, Ministry of Planning Air Vice Marshal (Retd) A K Khandker distributed certificates among the participants as the Chief Guest. A total of 25 personnel including 06 (six) MPs, 02 (two) Senior Judges, 02 (two) Secretaries, 03 (three) Business personalities, 02 (two) Chief Editors, 01 (one) Senior Lawyers, 02 (two) Top NGO Representatives, 01 (one) Senior Doctor, 01 (one) Chief Engineer, 01 (one) Senior Police Officer and 04 (four) Senior Members of Armed Forces (Major Generel/ equivalent) have participated in the course. Air Vice Marshal (Retd) A K Khandker, in his speech, explained about Capstone Course. According to Air Vice Marshal (Retd) A K Khandker, it is about free thinking and open mind; seeing the big picture; looking deep and beyond; thinking strategically and critically; providing strategic vision and mission; providing/delivering effective leadership; putting nation first but at the same time being a responsible member of the community; addressing the problems and challenges giving solutions and decisions; formulating doable strategies; effective coordination and synergy; co-evolution; speedy decision making, timely implementation, putting people first and specially those disadvantaged, living by values and ideals but yet being pragmatic. He further said that understanding, friendship and bondage amongst each other do matter our professional and social life. Having observed the Fellows as a group he felt that we have achieved this in totality. He hopes and prays that this friendship and bondage would endure and act as a vehicle for mutual benefit. The nation desires something out of this bondage for achieving our goal. Finally, the Chief Guest congratulated all the Fellows for completing the course successfully and wished them for their well-being, peace and prosperity in life and a very bright professional career.
Before the Closing Address by the Chief Guest, a few selected fellows were requested to deliver their reminiscence about the course. One honourable MP said,”The platform provided by the National Defence College would take them a long way in developing the nation.” One NGO representative remarked that this course has reminded her of the days of our Glorious Liberation War of 1971. She said,” Through this course the relationship between the civil and military has improved a lot.” The other fellows expressed deep satisfaction on the NDC authority for an effective management of the course.

OPENING OF CAPSTONE COURSE-2012
Two weeks long CAPSTONE COURSE-3 (2012) of National Defence College (NDC) was inaugurated at the Mirpur Cantonment on 01 January 2012. Security and Defence Affairs Adviser to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Major General Tarique Ahmed Siddique, rcds, psc (Retd) inaugurated the course as the Chief Guest. A total of 25 personnel including 06 (six) MPs, 02 (two) Senior Judges, 02 (two) Secretaries, 03 (three) Business personalities, 02 (two) Chief Editors, 01 (one) Senior Lawyers, 02 (two) Top NGO Representatives, 01 (one) Senior Doctor, 01 (one) Chief Engineer, 01 (one) Senior Police Officer and 04 (four) Senior Members of Armed Forces (Major Generel/ equivalent) have joined in the course. As the Chief Guest, Major General Tarique said that there is no alternative to continuous up-gradation of knowledge. Though the fellows of Capstone Course are top brass of the society, proven to be the best in their respective fields, still there exists room for exchange of knowledge and refresh memories. Major General Tarique believes that Capstone Course can definitely offer the opportunity to widen vision through a well-planned series of lectures and interactive sessions. He further added that keeping this fact in view the present democratic government of Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken the initiative to introduce Capstone Course for the top executives of the society. This will help the Fellows to make decisions at their level and ultimately enable the nation to achieve its desired goal of Vision 2021. The Chief Guest expected that the Fellows would establish a lasting bond of friendship with one another and assured that this bondage would be very useful when the Fellows would engage with each other in their future appointments and assignments. Finally, he wished all the Fellows a grand success and shining future.
